THE SEVEN STAGES OF CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS

THREE MONTHS can only focus on objects close up, but begins to have many expressions and is now starting to be strong enough to be propped up on their stomach - although they may prefer being on their back. Three months is also a wonderful time to have what we call a "Madonna Portrait" of the baby with his mother - a special portrait you'll treasure forever. We encourage you to join our "Watch Baby Grow" club with the first session being at three months and the last session at twelve months. Ask for detail on how to receive a free beautiful mat containing four to five photographs showing the baby's first year!

SIX MONTHS can lift herself up on her arms and focus on distant objects. Many wonderful expressions are present at this stage, and when may even be capable of sitting up by herself for short periods of time.

NINE MONTHS is the "perfect baby" age. At this stage they can easily sit up by themselves or stand with assistance; and are very open and expressive. Giggles and smiles are frequent in response to almost anyone talking to them. When a parent tells us over the phone that their child "just loves" having his picture taken, we know they have a seven to ten month old.

ONE YEAR is the traditional time for a major baby portrait. A one year old is walking, has full speech comprehension, and is beginning to talk. They also are frequently attached to a favorite stuffed toy or blanket, so consider having some done with it as a personal prop. We like to feature a "birthday party portrait" so bring in the cake and we will supply the ballons! One year old children do well in outside pictures in our "little studio in the woods." The one year session is the perfect time to continue their photography with us by joining our "Album Club."

THREE YEARS loves to be helpful, and so this is a wonderful time to have a creative Victorian or ourdoor wall portrait done in a special sitting or using a variety of props. You might even involve your child in planning the portrait. You'll find they have plenty of ideas! This is the perfect age to take advantage of out newest creations, "Classic Portraits" of children. We photograph them in black and white and then use artist oils to color certain areas of the print.

SIX YEARS is the beginning of the end of childhood, since their facial features are about to be changed forever when their front teeth are replaced in the coming year. It can happen very fast, so be sure not to miss it!

TEN YEARS is the doorstep to puberty. It will be the last time to have a portrait of their childhood as they enter the teenage years. Once again, dramatic changes happen almost overnight (in both girls and boys) so be sure not to put it off too long!
